We would like to welcome you and your student to the Penn State family!
Sending your student off to college is a big step for both of you. Think about it: Your grocery bill will probably be lower on a weekly basis, and you may have another room in the house for that library you've been dreaming about. Seriously, though, here are three tips we have for parents and families as they see their student off to college:
- Give your student the freedom and independence they need to grow into the college experience. Your student may still be living under your roof, but now is a great time to talk about any changing rules and expectations.
- Help your student make their studies the primary focus in life when school is in session. Keep jobs, family responsibilities, and social life in a healthy balance that supports the student's educational goals. Encourage your student to consciously manage time, energy, and money.
- Encourage your student to get to know their instructors outside of class, make use of all campus support personnel and services, and get involved in a sport or club activity on campus. These connections will help a student persist in achieving their educational goals.
The faculty and staff at Penn State Berks are committed to helping your student succeed. Whatever help your student may need, we're here to support their journey.
